FromSoftware is working on a brand new Armored Core game, with Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki involved as well.
The Elden Ring character creator isn’t the only FromSoftware related leak to happen lately. Details for a new Armored Core game, so far assumed to be Armored Core 6, have been shared online as well.
Over the weekend, ResetEra user Red Liquorice claimed to have taken part in a consumer survey specifically for an Armored Core game. The details they shared say that it is another third person shooter, just like previous entries, with promises of massive three-dimensional maps and a high level of customisation.
Subsequently, the same user uploaded screenshots of the game – albeit edited to remove the watermarks. If fake, they’re certainly very convincing fakes.
They also claim to have seen some gameplay footage, including a boss fight, and they describe the whole thing as being similar to FromSoftware’s work on the Dark Souls series.
‘The boss fight looked quite Souls-y – the long-range gunfire reminded me of Virtua On, that’s my frame of reference. I’m not a mech fan and haven’t played any Armored Core games. The player character in a white mech went in close to the bigger robot boss and fought with like an energy or laser sword, this looked Souls style,’ says Red Liquorice.
‘The field gameplay, the player in the same white mech seemed to be following a couple of other players in the distance (co-op?) and they were walking (flying close to the ground maybe) through a snowy area towards either a large wall or gate, this seemed Souls-y too, the vastness of the architecture, but it wasn’t a castle, more like a worn-down metal/stone wall or gate. It was quite short.’
Red Liquorice’s description mentions that the sci-fi world was created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, which isn’t that surprising as he got his start at FromSoftware working on the Armored Core series, so it probably has a soft spot in his heart.
He served as director for Armored Core 4 and its direct sequel, Armored Core: For Answer, before going on to create Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls. As for the series itself, it hasn’t had a new entry since 2013’s Armored Core: Verdict Day.
Unlike the fantasy based Dark Souls games, Armored Core takes place in the distant future and puts you in control of giant warring mechs. The series has always struggled to entice casual players and it remains unclear with this is something FromSoftware will want to rectify with a new game.
