Fans are not taking the cancellation of Days Gone 2 lying down, with a petition to save the project already attracting a lot of interest.
When news got out that Sony had apparently ditched plans to make a sequel to Days Gone fans were understandably upset, with social media full of complaints and appeals to Sony to reverse their decision.
This has led to the inevitable petition on Change.org, which has picked up a lot of backers since it started three days ago and is, as we type this, just on the cusp of 10,000 signatures.
Whether that’s going to make a difference depends on many factors but if the number of backers continues to rise at a fast enough rate it’s bound to get Sony’s attention.
The petition’s very brief introduction states that, ‘There’s millions of people who want Sony Playstion [sic] to approve Days Gone 2.’
‘They can’t just pull the plug on such a amazing game that ended with a cliff hanger’, is the only other call to arms.
No matter how many backers the petition gets It’s unlikely to make any short term difference, as original developer Sony Bend are already working on a different game.
Plus, the whole reason for not making Days Gone 2 is, allegedly, that the original didn’t make enough money to justify it’s long and expensive development.
If the petition continues to attract signatories, and there’s other clear evidence of an active fanbase, it could secure the series’ long-term future though, once the pandemic is over and Sony has a clearer idea of how the new generation will play out.
As unlikely as it may seem to some, petitions and other fan activities do often work, especially if a publisher is uncertain whether to proceed with an idea and needs only a relatively small push to decide.
