Beloved Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade has died at the age of 23 from cancer.

The news was shared by his family with a video titled ‘so long nerds’ uploaded to his channel earlier today, where his father read a farewell message written by Technoblade before his death.

‘Hello everyone, Technoblade here. If you’re watching this. I am dead,’ it reads, with him revealing his real name as Alex to the Minecraft community in the posthumous post.

‘Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had another hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time as those were the happiest years of my life.’

At the end of the video is a separate message from his mother, who writes about how much Technoblade loved and appreciated his fans and colleagues.

She also mentions how he ‘avoided personal fame and worked hard to keep his true identity confidential,’ and asks that fans honour his wishes by respecting his and his family’s privacy.

Born in 1999, Technoblade started posting Minecraft videos in 2014.

Since then, the San Francisco-based gamer garnered 10.9 million subscribers and became an active figure within the Minecraft community.

Both his fans and peers have left tributes for him in the comments of the video and on social media, including the Hypixel server that he was a member of.

‘We at Hypixel are deeply saddened by the announcement released by Technoblade’s family that he has passed away after his long-fought battle with cancer,’ reads a message on its website.

‘He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply. He was a kind, talented, passionate young man with extraordinary potential. We are so thankful to him and grateful to have had him be such a prominent part of the greater community. In many ways, the success of many of us is tied to the success of Technoblade.’

His online store has been updated as well, with a portion of any proceeds made from his merchandise to be donated to cancer research.

Technoblade was diagnosed with stage four cancer in August of last year and has been unable to appear in new videos for the majority of the time since, as he underwent chemotherapy.

The revelation that his name is Alex is a major one, as he always kept his private life secret and never revealed exactly what type of cancer he has – although it was implied when he began raising funds for sarcoma charities. Sarcoma is an uncommon type of tumour that can grow anywhere on the body and seems to have almost resulted in Technoblade losing his arm.

One rare detail about his private life revealed that he lived with his divorced father, who appears in the farewell video and describes Technoblade as ‘the most amazing kid’.

His mother was also supportive though, with a written statement at the end of the video celebrating her son and saying, ‘Even after his eventual successes he somehow managed to keep his good-natured humility, competing with an endearing balance between confidence and self-deprecating wit.’

‘He avoided personal fame and worked hard to keep his true identity confidential, and we ask you to continue to honour his wishes to protect his privacy and the privacy of his family.’

Technoblade himself added that, ‘If I had another hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time as those were the happiest years of my life.’

He and his father had planned a more elaborate final video but ‘left it too long’, so Technoblade had to write what he wanted to say and then read it out. He died just eight hours later.
