PS5 Pro controller set for reveal this month claims insider

PlayStation 5 DualSense

Is the DualSense about to get an elite version? (pic: Sony)

A new report claims there will be a new PlayStation event this month and it will reveal a new, more expensive version of the DualSense controller.

Given the PlayStation 5 has been out for less than two years, and is still difficult to get hold of, it’s going to be a long time till there’s a PS5 Pro console – if indeed there is one at all. But according to the latest rumours a DualSense Pro is relatively imminent.

The new PlayStation controller is reportedly the Sony equivalent to Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Series of controllers, which are significantly more expensive than the standard ones and aimed at hardcore and professional gamers.

Sony’s controller is believed to have the codename of Hunt and will feature removeable analogue sticks, trigger stops, and back paddles. Not only that but it’s expected to be revealed within the next few weeks.

Although no pictures have leaked publicly, the new controller apparently still looks similar to the existing DualSense, except with new, removable, grips to hold the device.

Why exactly you can remove the analogue sticks is not entirely clear, but it’s speculated it may be to avoid stick drift, or at least make it easier to repair and/or replace.

The leak comes from the provenly reliable Tom Henderson, writing at Try Hard Guides, who claims to have seen images of the controller and who has been told that the device will have ‘significant software upgrades’.

It’s suggested that the new controller will be unveiled at an event at the end of the month, presumably a new State of Play event. This will supposedly include several new pieces of hardware, that are not consoles – so likely other peripherals.

This is also expected to be a showcase for God Of War Ragnarök, of which there has been various rumours recently but officially speaking is still scheduled for release this year.
