The current demo for Resident Evil Village only lets you play it for an hour, so naturally somebody figured out how to bypass it.
You only have a few more days to wait until Resident Evil Village releases. But if you simply can’t wait that long, Capcom has made its latest demo available until May 10.
The one downside is that, while you’ll be able to explore both the titular village and Castle Dimitrescu, home of the Internet’s favourite tall vampire lady, you only have an hour of playtime. And once that hour’s up, you can’t access it again.
While this rule applies to console owners, someone has figured out a way to bypass this on the Steam version, allowing you to effectively play the demo as many times as you want.
According to Steam user Leaves, you must follow this step-by-step process:
- Disable Steam Cloud for the Resident Evil Village demo
- Download Steam SAM (Steam Active Manager)
- Delete local save files (Located at D:Steamuserdata\1541780remotewin64_save)
- Start Steam SAM
- Select the Resident Evil Village demo
- Remove Achievements and Stats, then confirm
What this essentially does is trick Steam into thinking that you haven’t played the demo yet. The downside is that you’ll need to do this every time you want another go and you will also have to readjust the game’s settings each time you do.
There is a workaround for this too, however. What you need to do is start the demo up, change the settings you want, and then close the game.
Next, go to your local save and copy data00-1.bin. This is where your settings are kept. Repeat the listed steps and just add it into the folder, and you should keep all your settings.
Resident Evil Village is the eighth mainline entry in the series and continues the story of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7.
After recurring protagonist Chris Redfield kills his wife and kidnaps his baby daughter, Ethan finds himself fighting against vampires and werewolves in order to rescue his daughter.
Resident Evil Village releases on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Stadia.
