Scalper group CrepChiefNotify has over 1,000 Xbox Series X orders cancelled

UK-based scalpers who boasted of having over a thousand Xbox Series X console to resell have been caught out by online retailer Very.

If you’ve never understood the adage about not counting your chickens until they’ve hatched this is exactly the sort of thing it refers to, as the scalper group that bragged about having over a thousand Xbox Series X to sell at inflated prices have had their orders cancelled.

Just yesterday CrepChiefNotify was crowing about having acquired the consoles from an unnamed UK retailer, presumably by using bots to bypass Very’s restriction on delivering only one console per address.

Thanks to the publicity surrounding the claim though Very realised what was going on and has now cancelled the orders, after what it describes as a technical error with the website.

‘As a result of a technical error, some people were able to place orders for PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles for a short time on Sunday,’ a Very spokesperson told Sky News.

‘However, these items are not on sale and affected customers have received notice that the orders have been cancelled. We apologise for the confusion caused.’

The apology is because some ordinary customers also had their orders cancelled, although they seem to be limited in number.

Needless to say, the consoles are not currently listed as in stock on the Very website, in fact they’re not listed at all as we write this.

While many gamers will see this as good news it’s so far the only major attempt by a retailer, or Microsoft or Sony, to prevent scalping of next gen consoles, and will ultimately end up as only a drop in the ocean.

Even now, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S regularly sell for double their intended retail price on auction sites such as eBay, and often much more than that.

Microsoft has talked vaguely about some sort of coupon system to make pre-orders fairer but so far neither it or Sony has done anything about the activities of scalpers, who are likely to remain a problem until both consoles are more widely available.

Have Fun ^_^
