Capcom seems to have a secret new Resident Evil game in development, as it promises to reveal more on Resident Evil Village next week.

There’s a lot of big anniversaries coming up this year, including Pokémon in February, but another game about to celebrate its 25th anniversary is Resident Evil – and up until now we’ve heard nothing about what Capcom might be doing to commemorate it.

Resident Evil on the PS1 was first released in Japan on March 22, 1996 so there’s not much time to reveal anything; except apparently there’s some kind of secret project that’s already in the beta testing stage.

The following page on the official Resident Evil website is asking for fans to register for a closed beta test for on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a full reveal promised during an online event on January 21.

There is a clue as to what kind of game it is though, as at the bottom of the page the genre is listed as ‘multiplayer action’ (not survival horror) and the number of players as four to six.

That seems to rule out the rumoured Resident Evil 4 remake and has already got fans imagining everything from Resident Evil: Revelations 3 to some kind of reboot for the Outbreak series.

The more likely, and to be honest less interesting, explanation is a standalone release for Resident Evil Resistance, the asymmetric multiplayer mode from last year’s Resident Evil 3.

It is impossible to say at this point though, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

As for what Capcom has said about next week’s showcase it will take place at 10pm GMT on Thursday, January 21 and feature a guide tour of Resident Evil Village, with a new trailer and the first ever gameplay footage.

‘Lots more Resident Evil news’ is also promised though, including whatever this secret anniversary game is.

Have Fun ^_^
