The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Actually we can put Bad and Ugly together for this one, ’cause this article is all about my experience with playing Arknights; The Good and the Bad of Arknights.
Unique, and Truly Beautiful Art Styles
One of the striking things for me when I think of Arknights is Character Art. Honestly, the art style used for this game is just amazing. It just looks beautiful and unique. Fate/Grand Order, Azur Lane and other gacha games have their own uniqueness to their art styles, but Arknights really sells it to me.
Like seriously, can we not appreciate the amount of work that went into each and every Operator within the game? Especially for their outfit art, like oh my days! Yostar can just take my money!!!
Out of all the skins, this Lappland outfit is by far my most favourite.
Cool Characters, cool Art, doesn’t come without a price, unfortunately. Do you think Farming materials and resources is a living nightmare? Nonono kids. Arknights has taught me harshly and clearly that promoting your favourite Characters to their maximum form is the most painful and cruel thing that a Gacha game can have you experience.
Do you think the terrible drop rates with Fate/Grand Order were cruel? Nope, nothing compares to that of Arknight’s levelling system. It makes you work yourself to death.
Love this little implementation or feature or whatever you call it, that they included in their gacha. The fact that you are guaranteed a 5-star or higher Operator in your first ten rolls, is a blessing upon itself. It’s almost like Yostar takes pity on us, that or they’re just putting our hopes high…
But, the gacha for this game is amazing. Also little bonus, they tell you if you rolled good or bad; Gold for 5-stars and 6-stars, purple for 4-stars, and the white light……let’s not talk about it.
On second thought, that’s the next point.
The Accursed White Light
I fear no man, but that thing… it scares me.
Like honestly, if there’s one thing I hate from this game that gives me nightmares it’s the accursed white light revealing to you, in all of it’s “glory”, as you roll the gacha with a ticket. Also, how can the game make it worse for the player? Oh, I know, let’s throw in a memorable character. Let’s do that. How about another Kroos for like the 20th time?
But yeah, Gacha experience in this game, whilst its a blessing, is also a curse as well. Just like every gacha game, except it, tells you if you rolled badly beforehand.
A Nostalgic, yet Unique take on Gameplay
One other aspect that I find fancy about Arknights is that it’s a Tower Defence Gacha game with RPG elements and an emphasis… huge emphasis on its lore.
Taking the lore aspect out of the way, because I adore the game lore and we will be stuck here all day with me talking about it, this game just feels nostalgic, it feels like for me as though I am playing one of those tower defence games you would play on your PC as a kid, despite having its differences of course.
Kingdom Rush, Balloon Monkeys… I believe they were called, those were my Jam back then. 🙂
It feels the same for me when I play this game.
A Suffocating… no, Suffering experience
Bit of a rant here so bear with me on this. I’d say it sums up this section in a nutshell;
OH MY DAYS HOWWWWWW!!! HOW IN THE WORLD DID HE GET PASSED MY DEFENSES!? OH COME ON! HE JUST ONE-SHOT MY OPERATOR! WHY DOES HE DO SO MUCH DAMAGE??! THERE’S SPAWNING TOO QUICKLY AND I CAN’T KILL THEM ALL FAST ENOUGH?! HOW IS HE NOT PUSHED OFF THE EDGE? JUST WHAT IS A WRAITH!? LET ALONE A WRAITH LEADER?!?!
WHY?!? WHY?!? WHY?!?
*Cough* *Cough* Finished.
So to explain for those who don’t understand, there are many moments that I can recall from playing that just fries up my brain and depletes my happiness. I gave quite a lot of examples; like seriously, how that bloody Wraith can run-pass and then just not be pushed off by my Shaw!? Like seriously, I can just scream, like literally scream.
But yeah, enjoyable gameplay with unexplainable, illogical, frustrating moments in-game that’ll make you go bald faster than eating a whole tub of your favourite ice cream.
So yeah, hope you enjoyed reading this article of mine. 🙂
