Wonder if he’ll reprise this role in the next Spider-Man movie too (Picture: Tom Holland/Instagram)

Tom Holland’s take on Nathan Drake will need to wait, as Sony has pushed the Uncharted movie out of 2021 entirely.

With there being no current plans for a new Uncharted game (at least, not officially), fans of the series only have the upcoming movie adaptation to look forward to.

But after finally managing to get a release date of July 16, 2021, a case of Nathan Drake’s trademark bad luck has pushed it out of this year entirely.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony will instead be releasing it on February 11, 2022. No exact reason was given, but clearly it’s due to the uncertainty brought about by the ongoing pandemic and its impact on cinemas.

The movie has already had a rocky production. It struggled to hold down a director for years until finally landing Ruben Fleischer, director of Zombieland and Venom.

It’s said that the movie, rather than adapting the first game’s story, will instead take inspiration from the most recent entry, 2016’s Uncharted 4.

This, humorously, means the movie’s frequent delays make it a pretty faithful adaptation already, as Uncharted 4 was hit with multiple delays too.

It will star Spider-Man actor Tom Holland in the lead role, with Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan’s mentor/father figure Sully.

Both have been criticised for being too young for the roles, but at this rate they’ll certainly be more suitable by the time a sequel comes around.

Antonio Banderas will appear in an unspecified role as well, with Sophia Ali reportedly cast as Chloe Frazer, who debuted in Uncharted 2 and later became one of the main protagonists in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Sony is hard at work on adapting at least 10 other PlayStation properties for movie and TV screens but, aside from The Last Of Us, it hasn’t confirmed any of them yet.

Have Fun ^_^
